I was strolling through the craft store the other day with the children in tow. I was looking for some activities that would keep them entertained during the longer days of the upcoming months. With darkness rolling in around 5:30, the days can feel long and dreary and it can be hard to keep children entertained for long hours. Air dry clay was one of the items I picked up and placed in my cart. Then an idea came to mind….

How To Dry Oranges

I like a simpler way of life and this world that I live in feels a little too fast paced for me. Several years ago the way I viewed the holidays changed and I have strived to create a much more cozy feeling for the season. One that is wrapped in traditions and celebration. So I challenged the children and myself this year to a homemade holiday.

Slow Down. Get Cozy. Take Pleasure in the Simple Things

November. A season where the remaining leaves are golden yellow, rusty reds and the path beneath my feet feels the air with the sound of leaves crunching. Cool breezes blow across the way, morning are filled with heavy fog in the low valleys and evening sunsets come much earlier. The first glowing fire of the season has already been made in the fireplace and the wood pile has dwindled and been added to.

Sitting at the computer with the windows open and the feeling of fall is heavy in the air. The leaves are falling quickly to the ground today as the wind speed picks up and storms linger in the horizon. My husband is outside changing the oil in our truck and the children are spending a little time watching a favorite show. That leaves a little time for me to finally update the blog.

I woke up to the sound of an alarm, rolled out of bed and headed to the kitchen to make a pot of coffee. The home was still dark and not a single person was awake besides me. I grabbed a light jacket, a cup of coffee and headed out the door.

It’s a slight chill in the air with heavy filled foggy mornings that beckon me outside to enjoy the crisp crunch of the already fallen brown leaves from the tall Walnut tree in the front yard. Goldenrod stands tall across the street and the big leaves of the Maple are just starting to fade from their vibrant green colors. The stores are filling with mums and pumpkins in all sizes and colors and the apple trees are loaded with plenty for all. Fall must be near.
